Posted on Fri, 5 Jun 2015
Question: When I move my right eye quickly to the right, I get a momentary flash of thin light on the very right edge of my eye. Only see it when it is dark. No pain or discomfort and vision is fine.

Brief Answer:
This requires examination of the retina of the eye.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
These symptoms of flash on moving the eye indicate a symptom called as flashes of light.
The occurs because of the traction on the vitreous and retina which lie behind the lens in our eye. The common cause is vitreous detachment, which occurs as a age related change in people aged more than 60 years. If this is the cause then it will decrease slowly in intensity and no treatment is required.
However we need to rule out other causes like retinal tear which when present require treatment by laser.
Hence this requires evaluation by examination of the posterior segment of the eye by your eye doctor by a test called as indirect ophthalmoscopy.

Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for this test and get back to me with the report.

Hope this answers your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
