What Causes Lichen Sclerosus?

Question: Update for Dr. Asmeet XXXXXXX Sawhney. My dermatologist finally gave me the news that I had lichen sclerosis last week. He did not order a biopsy to confirm, which I thought was standard procedure. He prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide USP cream 0.1%. I cannot help but blame myself. I noticed a red spot below the head some time ago, but thought it was due to rough masturbation and that it would heal. It did not hurt or itch, but I knew I should have gone to my doctor. Anyway, before I knew it the white discoloration appeared. Did this cause the LS or maybe it was a lesion in the making. Please tell me if there was something I could have done to stop myself from getting this disease. My doctor says there was nothing I could have done to prevent this, but I can't help but feel guilty about it.

You don't have to feel guilty as there was nothing you could have done to prevent it.
It is a disease of unknown cause which can occur in anybody at any age.
The red lesion you had earlier noticed was the initial sign of this disease.
You don't have to worry as it will be kept under control with the use of topical steroids.
