What Causes Leg Pain After An Anterior Hip Replacement Surgery?

default
Posted on Tue, 31 Oct 2017
Question: Hello
I had an anterior hip replacement almost one year ago, and have recovered from it beautifully, having no issues at all. But suddenly my upper thigh on that (right) leg hurts so bad i can hardly stand the pain! Nothing seems to help it! Not pain meds, not heat, not ice, not rest - it hurts no matter what! Advice? (of course I will see the surgeon who did the hip replacement at his earliest appointment date - Oct. 30)

Brief Answer:
probably a neuritic pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

The pain seems to be neuritic origin pain, caused due to inflammation of a nerve in the upper thigh.

Usually, such kind of pain does not improve with routine pain medicines and other conventional methods of pain relief that you have tried already.

You should take methylcobalamin, pregabalin and folic acid tablets.Apply a compression bandage around the painful part.

Adding a muscle relaxant tablet like thiocolchicoside, tizanidine or chlorzoxazone should help to alleviate the pain .

A local steroid injection shot at the painful spot will be helpful.

If the pain does not improve within next 3-5 days, you should not wait till 30th October to meet you doctor. Consult an ER as soon as possible.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.

I havent heard of the methylcobalamin, pregabalin and folic acid tablets you recommended, so I'm searching online for them. What strength do you recommend?
