What Causes Late Periods With Negative UPT?

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Oct 2014
Question: Hi, I have had hypothyroidism for 30 years now. Was diagnosed when I was 10. Periods are sometimes late, but always come every month. Thyroid level great in February 2014, I'm currently 6 weeks late, have had light pink discharge when I wipe for 3 weeks. Home Pregnancy tests (3) negative. Feel very tired, nausia, have some cramping and bloating. Didn't pay much attn to hair falling out, b/c sometimes it happens with thyroid. But it is getting a little worse. Haven't had to have my meds adjusted in several yrs. So assuming things pretty much under control. At a loss for what's going on and honestly tired of feeling miserable. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
It can be due to peri menopause.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Facts about your problem-
- As your pregnancy tests are negative and you are 41 yrs. of age( endometrium lining is already thin) - you are not pregnant.
- it can be due to peri menopause ( a stage before menopause)- decrease estrogen level
- it can be due to hypothyroidism also
- stress and anxiety, hormonal imbalance
Advice from my side-
- get your thyroid profile done
- eat healthy and balanced diet with full of fruits and vegetables
- take calcium and multivitamin in your diet
- do yoga, meditation
If your period delayed for more then 3 months please consult a gynaecologist and get your examination and hormonal profile done along with ultrasound pelvis to see that you are going in peri menopausal stage.
Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
