Brief Answer:
voice rest, avoid triggers and be patient

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Laryngitis is the inflammation of the larynx that could be due to an infection, allergen induced or gastro esophageal reflux associated or excessive vocal misuse related. Other factors such as cigarette smoking and asthma inhaler irritation can also serve as triggers. If symptoms persist and don't resolve for more than 3 weeks, the condition is then termed chronic laryngitis.

As part of treatment, complete voice rest is the best option. Whispering should also be avoided , as whispering leads to overuse/ hyper functioning of the larynx and is counter productive. Antibiotic cover should be given either through a quinolone like gemifloxacin or a cephalosporin like cefaclor. I use these options empirically in my clinical practice and have seen very good results and patient compliance is also good. Humidified air inhalation should also be encouraged. Antihistamines can lead to further drying of the airways leading to further irritation. Corticosteroids should also be avoided as a false sense of laryngeal well being can lead to overuse injury. GERD factor should be covered by a PPI such as esomeprazole. So basically the treatment involves voice rest and avoiding triggers. Most likely the laryngitis will subside with these measures but it does take a little time so you have to be a patient. May the force be with you !

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
