What Causes Knee And Leg Pain In A 7 Year Old Child?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: Dear Doctor,

My daughter aged 7 years was complaining of knee pain and leg (portion of leg below knee)pain ocassionally for 2 weeks or so.
We went to the doctor.
He mentioned that there was patellar clicks heard when bending the knees.
We took Vitamin D tests and it was found to be very low - 8mg.

He said the pain might be due to vitamin D deficiency and he prescribed:
1. Calcirol 1 G sachets - one XXXXXXX per month for 3 months
2. oxalgin nanogel 30mg to be applied at regions with pain.
3. Arachitol Injection was given.
4. tubifix band to be worn around the knee.

Questions are:
1. Are mild patellar clicks normal things?
2. Can full XXXXXXX of calcirol 1 G be given to kid who is 6 years old? If not what is the prescription you suggest?
3. Can the child involve in physical activities/games at school?
4. Was Arachitol injection really necessary?
5. Should the child wear tubifix band or not?

Please advice.

Brief Answer:
patellar clicks can be normal if not associated with pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have read your query.
For low vit D levels 1 gm calcirol XXXXXXX once a month can be given.
permission for physical activity depends on clinical examination and severity of pain.
With vit D level of 8 inj arachitol was good treatment.
YES she can wear appropriate size tubifix for support.
If no relief then x ray may be required.

Dear doctor,

X-ray was taken and doctor clarified it looks normal.

She is wearing tubifix on and off (not regular).
Is there a limit on how long they can wear this?

When she does not wear tubifix at the end of the day while going to bed she complains of pain if we touch her legs.

Is this normal?

For kid aged 7 years is there an issue with giving calcirol 1 gm XXXXXXX ?

Brief Answer:
Tubifix should be removed for couple of hours.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Tubifix should be removed for 4 to 6 hours in 24 hours.

Pain after removing Tubifix can be normal initially, but if persist after 3 to 4 weeks treatment then you need further investigation.

If symptoms persist then you may need further investigation like MRI.

Yes she can take calcirol 1 gm XXXXXXX
