What Causes Kidney Infection And High BP?
Question: What causes a kidney infection in a 57 year old male in good health. Ni high blood pressure or other symptoms.

I am so sorry to hear about this kidney infection that you have reported. The most common cause is a bacteria commonly called E. Coli. This bacteria is present in stool and when it finds its way to the opening of the urethra, it grips to the wall and gradual climbs into the bladder provoking an infection. Other factors would favor its upward propagation to the kidneys where it can also cause an infection. Another possibility is that germs in the blood stream can gain access to the kidneys and provoke an infection.
This infection is diagnosed by doing a urine test. Treatment consists in antibiotics for 5-7days and increased fluid intake. Healing is rapid and complications are rare.
