Posted on Tue, 2 Sep 2014
Question: Hi, about a month ago i started itching a lot and found these tiny red bumps that would disappear and reappear randomly but never stopped itching, its mostly my fingers and stomach and wrists. i concluded that its not bed bugs but then after a few weeks my boyfriend started scratching too and he has bumps as well in most of the same places. I know it could be a lot of things, but what do you think?

Brief Answer:
Scabies

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that you are having itchy lesions on your body.

I have seen the picture that you have uploaded.

From your history and description, I would consider the possibility of Scabies.

It is an infestation by a mite which burrows into the skin and is also present on the clothes and beddings.

You need to treat both yourself and your partner simultaneously.

You could follow these suggestions-

1. Use a cream containing 5% permethrin all over your body from neck downwards( sparing your scalp and face) including the involved and uninvolved areas. Apply overnight and wash off in the morning. This is a single application and you and your partner have to apply it on the same night.

2. Use a cream containing 1 % hydrocortisone from the next day onwards. Apply this only on the itchy spots twice a day for about 10 days. This will take care of the itching , which even after the mite has died could continue for 10 days due to an allergy to its products.

3. You could take an antihistamine tablet like Benadryl at bedtime for about 10 days.

4. Wash all the clothes you have worn in the last 3 days and dry in sunlight.

5. Clean your beddings and keep it in sunlight if possible.

Hope this helps you.

If you have any more queries, I will be glad to answer.
