What Causes Itching In Lower Legs And Ankles With A History Of Scabies?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: I have had itching problems for nearly a year.....began on lower legs and ankles.

A number of solutions tried inc withdrawal of blood pressure medication......not the issue

Several months ago GP suggested a diagnosis of scabies. I have over several months applied Promerthin (?) on 3 occasions.

It appeared to work but then itching has recurred. Currently (about 4weeks after last application) I am experiencing some itching again especially around wrists and hands accompanied by red rash and 'striations'/streaks. I have also been taking a daily anthistamine for a number of months. Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Retreatment needed for both you and your family members.

Detailed Answer:
Thanksa for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Scabies has a potential to recurr. Unless all the bedsheets and other clothes used before the application of the antiscabetic lotions, is washed thoroughly, and unless the contacts (people) get a simultanous course of three day treatment, scabies mites can stay and reinfect. That seems to be the case here.

For solution you therefore not only need to get the same treatment once again but to ensure that your family members and contacts are simultaneously treated and that all the used clothes are discarded (for washing) on the same day.

What is the 3 day treatment? My application was a single one.

Please see attached photos ....... Is this clearly scabies?

Many thanks

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to scabies.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I have gone through the images. It could indeed be due to scabies and the lines could be due to burrows of the scabies mite under the skin. You need to apply the lotion neck downward all over the body at night and scrub it off entirely with soap the next morning. This process needs to be repeated for consecutive three days (the thing that you have not done). It is also very important to do the same for your contacts and to discard the used clothes and bedsheets.
