What Causes Itching And Swelling On Vulva Region?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Sep 2014
Question: I just got a urine test report and it shows 2-4 pus cells, 2-4 epithelial cells and RBC - rare. What does it mean? I have had itching and swelling on my vulva region for 3 days. The itching was so much that I could not sleep properly. Also, I had diarrhoea for the last 3 days and they have not gotten any better on their own. Are these conditions related. I was thinking that it could be a yeast infection however the doctor has not given me any medicine for that.

Brief Answer:
Vaginal infection likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Presence of pus cells around 2 to 4 per Hpf (High power field of microscope) is normal and happens due to normal routine functioning of the immune system.

When the pus cell count in urine is more than 5 per Hpf chances of urinary tract being infected has to be considered. The symptoms that you are having are more likely to be due to bacterial vaginosis with a superadded fungal infection.
Diarrhea is not likely to be related to your vaginal infection. Norflox TZ will help in controlling the bacterial intestinal and vaginal infections.
Vaginal yeast infection can be treated with antifungal angents like miconazole. You can use a vaginal pessary like Gyno Daktarin once a day for 2 weeks or candid B ointment. Please follow the instructions on the package carefully.
It is also important to keep your private parts scrupulously clean. Trimming your pubic hair, not using any soap to wash your vagina and keeping the area clean and dry will help.
In case you are not symptomatically better in next 3 days then do consider visiting your gynecologist for a vaginal swab culture so that specific antibiotic can be started.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
