What Causes Itching And Seepage In Groin Area?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Jun 2014
Question: I have itching and seepage in my groin area. It's been constant for a few months now. Corn starch was keeping it at bay, but it really flared up about 10 days ago. I went to a local provider, said it was fungal, I got an anti fungal spray that works well for 24 hours if I don't do much. But I tried going back to the powder, it seems to irritate it more now. I was it every night and make sure it is dry before applying spray or nothing. Next step....dermatologist? But with a holiday weekend, I thought I'd write you first.

Brief Answer:
Answer and post the photos

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

I read your history. From your history, I feel that most probably you have tinea cruris. But, for firm diagnosis, I would like to have few answers from you and I want to see the photo of affected parts.

1) from how many days you have this lesion?
2) desribe the lesion..
3) do you have such lesions elsewhere?
4) do you have any other skin or systemic disease?
5) do you take any medicine?
6) do you apply any cream on the lesions?
7) do you have DM?
8) Past history of any diease or trauma?
9) family history of such disease or other disease?
10) do you work? What type?

Please answer above questions? And post the photos of affected areas. So that I can help youin better ways.

Thanks.

Wishing you early recovery

Thank you for responding
1- this has been on and off for several months, probably close to 6. The powder has kept it at bay applied by sprinkle after drying area thoroughly. The seepage would start after an active day, and sweaty. Things really broke out about 10 days ago, the only thing I did different in the shower was use a dandruff shampoo and before that, there were no traces, that evening, it broke out with a vengeance.
2- the lesion is usually on one side, sometimes both, and it looks like a basic "crotch rot" some areas are itchy and look like bites, a little bumpy. The areas that seep start raw, then seep with an odor that's not very pleasant but cannot be detected unless one is very close.
3- no other lesions
4- I've had 2 skin cancers on my face, a squamacell and XXXXXXX cell removed
5- I take a lot of medicine for many years with my bad back, pinched nerve and cancer, gurd.....pain meds..morphine, Percocet, lyrica, along with Xanax, ambien, pantoprazole, cancer drugs are sandostatin every 28 days via injection and sub q if needed for side effects. If you need the dosage and all please let me know. I'll work on getting a picture to you ASAP.
6- I spray the And sprinkle the baking powder
7- no
8- carcinoid cancer metasitized to my liver and I've had surgery and over 90 tumors removed from my liver and small intestines. Also a small Boswell resection, they removed about 3 feet.
9- mother had carcinoid
10- I'm disabled.

Brief Answer:
Tinea cruris

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for answers.

It does seems to be a fungal infection - Tinea cruris. May be low immunity and perspiration might have exacerbated it.

I would suggest you to continue antifungal spray / powder after bath during day time and antifungal cream like clotrimazole at night. In addition, I would like you to be started on oral antifungal like itraconazole 100 mg twice a day for two weeks and antihistaminics like levocetirizine 10 mg till itch and discomforts are relieved. Oral drugs that I mentioned are prescription only drugs. You can discuss about it during the doctor visit.

Besides this, you can also try sitz bath using dettol mixed solution (water).

I hope you got the answer.

Thanks and wishing you early recovery.

If you have any query, you are welcome.
