What Causes Itchiness, Burning Sensation Under The Arms After Using Shaving Gel?

default

Question: Hi. I'm an active 38 yr old female. A few weeks I bought a new shaving gel (normally I just use soap & water) to shave my under arms. Ever since then my under arms have felt & itchy/burning intermittently. There is no redness or rash. I discontinued the shaving gel immediately & returned to using soap & water. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a small tender lump (lymph node?) between my right breast & under arm. I've been very concerned since then and am continually checking & feeling for any change in size or resolution of the lump. Over time it has become slightly more painful but no change is size & still no redness or discoloration. I have a very physical job & I do wear close fitting clothes & sweat a lot at work. I've made an appointment with my OB/GYN but they can't see me for another month. Please help. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to a minor soft tissue infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It seems that while using the new gel you had somehow caused some injury to the skin of your armpits and as a result some minor soft tissue infection had resulted. This infection got contained in the draining lymph node and made it tender. I would not worry about it. It would gradually come back to normal.

Had it been due to a breast tumor, the tenderness is unlikely to have been present. However, you can self examine your breasts. Google out for the technique and you would be able to clear your doubts without even needing to visit your Ob/Gyn specialist.
