What Causes Irritating Red Patches On The Penis Glans?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: I have a moderate redness on my glans penis along the bottom edge of the head extending about 3/4 in down onto the foreskin. The skin of the head is also smooth and shiny unlike the normal, dull appearance of the rest of the glans. Is this a yeast infection and what is the best way to treat.

Brief Answer:
MIGHT BE FUNGAL INFECTION; FOLLOW AS ADVISED

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com
This is Dr. Swarnava dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
From your description, it mostly looks as a fungal infection but bacterial infections are also quite probable. It looks like shiny papules which are found in fungal infections, but there can be secondary bacterial infection also. So, both have to be treated. It would be helpful if you can post a photograph and also tell me whether there is pain or discharge associated. I would suggest you the following-

Maintain genital cleanliness.
Get a culture from the lesion done for organisms.
Drink plenty of water orally.
Apply terbinafine ointment and neosporin ointment locally 2-3 times daily for 5 days. Hold hydrocortisone cream for now as it may sometimes flare up the lesions.

You can consult your doctor for prescription of the above.

Hope i have answered your question.
If you have any further questions i will be happy to help.
Regards
