What Causes Irregular Periods?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Nov 2014
Question: Hello: this Question is for my wife. From last six+ months she has irregular period. Her period comes after regular interval but only lasts for 1-2 days with less bleeding. Also, she had some swelling in uterus 3 month ago which was cured with prescribed medicine by gyne.
She was detected with 6 weeks unplanned pregnancy in XXXXXXX 2014. We decided to abort and went through medicine route first. But that didn't clean up completely so later she had to go for DNC. The problem started after that.
I want to check if this is normal/regular behavior and she can take some normal multivitamin or iron tonic which can help her recover this over the period of time. And if we plan for a second baby will this have an impact?
Do we need to go for any hormonal test to ensure she is healthy for any future fertility or pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
Yes it is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
After abortion with medicines and D&C, it is normal to have comparatively lesser bleeding during the cycles due to decreased endometrial growth.
If the cycles are coming at regular intervals then there is no need to worry. With iron supplementation and a healthy diet the periods will return to their regular flow in few months. Hormonal tests that have been prescribed by her gynecologist are also necessary to rule out any hormonal disturbance.
Since the periods are coming at regular intervals, it is not going to affect her fertility. You can plan for your next baby.
Do get the hormonal tests done and if everything is normal then there is no need to worry.
