What Causes Irregular Menstruation?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Sep 2016
Question: Hi there, for the last three months I've been having problems with my period not being right, it sort of comes and goes in spots over three weeks, I'm not pregnant as pregnancy test came up negative - always does.
Prior to it going screwy it was more or less a thirty day cycle (give or take a few days) with standard flow, as I'm undergoing fertility treatments (polycystic ovaries) I was taking Clomid to assist in ovulation, the period problem only started after I stopped the clomid due to three failed cycles, clearly the clomid or lack of it is the cause, I've tried explaining to the fertility clinic the problem but they just keep telling me that I have to let them know when I have my period to start stronger medication.
I do have an appointment with my gynecologist in about a fortnight, an appointment I made months ago due to waiting list, but it doesn't help me fix the problem now, my GP is stumped and can't do anything until my gynecologist takes a look at things.

Brief Answer:
Hormonal disturbance likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The irregular spotting that you are having is suggestive of a hormonal disturbance. The ovulation inducing drugs can be started only after you have a regular period. For that it i best to start with oral contraceptive pills for 1-2 cycles and reset the normal cycles. Do try to reduce extra weight also. It will help in correcting the hormonal imbalance.
