What Causes Inflamed Vein On Right Arm?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: I have a suddenly had what seems to be a major nerve in my right arm become inflamed (feels hot and very painful to touch). Pain started at the elbow but now runs up to my shoulder coming into my armpit and down from my elbow, wraps around my arm and onto the top of my hand. My knuckles are sore to touch. Can kinda see the red outline of the nerve(?) running this path along my arm.

Brief Answer:
You are likely to be having Thrombophlebitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar.

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern. You are likely to be having thrombophlebitis of one of veins of upper limb( arm and forearm). It can be confirmed by Doppler ultrasound. Analgesic such as ibuprofen are helpful in reducing pain. Vitamin B and C is helpful in recovery. If you have fever you may need antibiotics. Thrombophobe gel local application without rubbing is helpful in resolving it. You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Wishing you a good health
Take care.
