What Causes Inflamed Red Spots On Labia Majora?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: Hi I had a slight pain on my left labia majora which was inflamed and red, I thought this might be due to friction as I've been playing rugby continuously for the last 2 weeks with compression shorts on, there is now 3 little spots on there and it feels hard underneath. I've never had herpes before and neither has my partner and I haven't had sexual contact with anyone for almost 3 months as he is out of area. My gland on my left groin is inflamed too.what could this be? I'm 28 and suffer with eczema and have had yeast infections before also I have had a smear recently which came back normal.

Brief Answer:
Looks like superficial folliculitis,pictures

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you with the same.

You seem to have developed some infection in the groin region. Since there has been no recent sexual contact, the possibility of a sexually transmitted disease is very less. I rather suspect it to be a superficial skin infection like folliculitis.

For confirmation of the diagnosis, I would like to have a look at the exact skin condition. Please click some close up pictures of the affected area and upload them here on this page.
Also please tell if you have noticed any ulcers or fluid filled blisters over the area.
Any itching or pain?
What all have you been applying over the groin region?
Any cream or oil?

I am sure I will be able to help you better once you provide me the pictures along with the above details.

Brief Answer:
Localised infection, need antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I have seen the attached picture.
You seem to have developed a localised cellulitis secondary to folliculitis .
Apply a topical antibiotic cream like neosporin or mupirocin over the affected area twice a day .
Take paracetamol tablet twice a day to reduce the associated inflammation and swelling.
You might also need some oral antibiotic in case the infection tends to persist or increase .

Yes you can get these medicines over the counter .
Also take tAblet Claritin along once a day .
But just in case your infection tends to increase , then you might have to see your local doctor for a prescription of antibiotics.
