What Causes Indentation In Left Calf?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Sep 2014
Question: About a week ago I noticed an egg shaped indentation in my left calf, about 5 inches below the knee on the outside at the widest part of the calf muscle; it does not hurt it does not change in shape. It looks as if an egg were laid sideways on my leg and pressed in about a half inch. I did not lean on anything to make the dent. Right behind it I now have what looks like a varicose vein which I have never had before. I'm 61 yrs old, 5 ft-2 in and 190 lbs. Yes, I'm overweight but have no edema or similar problems. I am moderately active - walk five miles or more a week, do all my yard and house work and am a care provider for my elderly father lifting and reaching for all the things he can not get. Any idea of the cause of the dent? Thanks

Brief Answer:
This indicates pitting edema.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have studied your case.
There is possibility of edema over your leg.
Edema can be due to cardiovascular or renal disease. when you press on edema you can get indentation.
Another possibility of venous congestion leading to indentation.
I will advise to consult your doctor and get clinical examination done.
You may need investigation like colour doppler and if required MRI.
Statins may lead to muscle pain if have it.
I hope I have answered your questions. If you have further questions please feel free to ask. I will be happy to answer your question. Take care.
