Posted on Mon, 14 Apr 2014
Question: Every time I eat a meal my pulse goes up and my heart races. What causes this? I also suffer from SVT. I'm in my late 40's and had this problem for about 2 years. I'm not overweight.

Brief Answer: normal phenomenon. monitor heart rate Detailed Answer: Hi, thanks for using HCM. I went through the query and understood your concern. With food due to increased blood supply to the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) the blood from other places shift to GIT. Our body sense this and hence for extra blood supply there is increase in heart rate. This is normal phenomenon. Since you have SVT better to compare your heart rate with pulse rate and also monitor pulse rate and get done ECG when ever you feel discomfort. Never skip any medications without your doctor's advise. I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask if any further queries and I will be glad to answer them. Wish you good health. Regards
