What Causes Increased Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Oct 2014
Question: I am 68 and have a history of irregular heartbeat and AF. I have had 2 ablutions and I have been on flecanide acetate (50mg x 2)/day for some time. Over the last couple of days my heart rate has increased form an average of around 60 to 128. I have taken a dose of 250mg of flecanide (as suggested by my cardiologist) but this has had no real affect. Should I go to my local A&E? XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You should go immediately to your local A&E...

Detailed Answer:
Hi John!

You should go immediately to your local A&E for a primary evaluation and to record an ECG. ECG will help to differentiate between different types of tachy-arrhythmia (especially life-threatening tachy-arrhythmia such as ventricular tachycardia).

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
