Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: I was thrown from a horse and hit the back of my head on a metal pipe. Neck and right jaw are sore, but now I am experiencing unbalance and dizziness when getting up, especially when I am laying down or have my feet up in recliner. It has been 7 day since injury and dizziness did not show up until day 4.

Brief Answer:
Drink much water, change position slowly!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this accident that you have reported. From your symptom, they are suggestive of a decrease in blood supply to the head when you switch position from lying to upright. To address this you would need to drink more water and avoid changing positions rapidly. Make the transition to be more smooth and not rushed. This would enable the regulating structures to adapt and not lead to a decrease in blood flow to the brain that causes these symptoms.

I will recommend that you take pain medications. Ibuprofen and Tylenol would help relief pains and hasten resolution of symptoms.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
