What Causes Hypoglycemia?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Apr 2014
Question: I was diagnosed as having hypoglycemia in 2007. I had lab work done a few days ago and my a1c was 4.5 . The Dr. told me that I was on the low side of normal . Not sure what that means though she said that I apparently had a few " episodes " of hypoglycemia in the last few months. Can that actually show on that test? I've also dropped low enough to vomit. How low does the sugars have to drop before that happens?

Brief Answer: sugar levels less than 70 mg/dl is hypoglycemia. Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing your query. After reading your post, I would like to inform you that blood sugar levels below 70 mg/dl is said to be hypoglycemia. HbA1c levels upto 7 is considered normal. It shows the average of last three months sugar levels. Whenever you are hypoglycemic, you will feel weakness and sometimes giddiness may occur. I would suggest that you should get a glucometer with you so that you can check your sugar levels yourself and eat sugar rich foods in time to avoid severe hypoglycemia. I hope this is helpful to you. If you have any further query, I will be happy to help. Thanks.
