What Causes Hypersensitivity In Vagina After Shingles?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Apr 2014
Question: My wife has a case of shingles on the labia minor and inside the vaginal canal. It took three month to get the correct diagnosis. She was given Valtrex, which she has taken for over a month. She still has ultra sensitivity to touch the labia minor and has to use lidocane every two hours to wear clothes. I think she is beginning to have nerve oversensitivity that could get worse. What do you recommend she do or who should she see to further the treatment to eliminate this painful condition.

Brief Answer: post herpetic neuralgia Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for the query. There is always a hypersensitivity after shingles, as the virus mainly affects nerves. This is called as post herpetic neuralgia. She needs treatment with nerve soothing and nerve repair agents. I prescribe gabapentene and pregabaline to my patients and they get good relief within 15 days. These are prescription drugs, so please meet a dermatologist and discuss regarding starting of these. She may get great improvement with these drugs. Regarding cracks of your thumb, use a combination of salicylic acid and urea cream ( xerina). This will give you relief. Let me know if you have any other doubts. Thank you
