What Causes Hip Pain At Night?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 May 2015
Question: Hi, I have been experiencing very sharp R. hip pain mainly at night - pain then travels into the R. groin. It happens mostly when sleeping on my back with knees up, the knees splay open, causing distressing pain. The pain which is brought on basically freezes the leg and I cannot bring my R. leg back to normal position willingly. I have to physically grab my knee and pull it back to an upright position. By then the hip and groin experience intolerable pain. It occurs at night as explained however if I have been sitting in a low chair and get up or exit my car turn the hip suddenly, I bring on groin and then hip pain. Thankfully it is not an on-going pain during the day, however I am awakened 2 - 4 times at night with this problem. Having an X-ray nest week, but wondered what your thoughts were on this. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It can be hip arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think you are having hip arthritis with cartilage and labral damage. Because of this whenever your hip comes in certain position than ti causes severe pain till you do not rotate or move your hip in normal position.
X ray will confirm the diagnosis. Treatment will be based on stage of arthritis. If it is in early stage than you can be treated by arthroscopy surgery. This is key hole surgery in which hip joint can be cleared with camera.
If it is late arthritis than you will need hip replacement surgery.
If you want than you can share your your hip x ray report with me.I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
