Question: Hello. I am a 42 year old female. I have always been healthy and active up until about a year ago. My new job has me sitting for long hours during the day. I have been having severe pains in my hip, knee and foot bones, systemic water retention with shortness of breath and my belly from just under my bra line to my pelvic bone out of no where has me looking 6-7 months pregnant. Im tired all the time and keep gaining weight steadily. I have problems with constipation too even with fiber and drinking lots of water. I have been to the doctor. They have run test for thyroid, blood test, etc. I have even been to a cardiologist to make sure its not my heart. My hormone levels are fine and I was told my ovaries are still plump (don't know what that means unless Im not yet at premenopause). What is happening to me and how can I get my health back on track? I have gained 30 lbs in a year and I eat less and do yard work every Saturday. I feel trapped in my body and just want to be "my normal" again. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Weight gain need hormonal evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Sorry to hear about your symptoms. Beyond40 years, our body metabolism usually slows down and we need lesser food than before. Since the metabolism is slow, unless we reduce the carbohydrate intake, we gain weight.

Since thyroid issues are ruled out, i would suggest to do a screening for Cushing's syndrome which is a hormonal disorder which cause weight gain and bone/muscle pains. You needto talk to your PCP about it as most general physicians often overlook this condition.

Binu
