What Causes High Heart Rate While Suffering From Fever?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: Question 1) I just had 102.8 F fever today. I was fine till morning and then when I woke up I found myself sneezing and having a runny nose by after the fever came and it was 102.8 F when I checked at noon. I was so freaked out that I took 1 tablet of Sinarest LP hoping to lower the fever. The fever lowered to 101.5 f first and then its 100.00 F right now. I feel so desperate because my heart rate which was just fine till morning (Under 80)when I woke up ; it went up to 120 bpm and 125 in the afternoon and its almost the same now (just checked it to be 115) so I am really having worries. I never had a resting heart rate that went 86+ except when I used to do push ups (it wd go to 130 bpm). Can fever increase the heart rate?

Question 2) Now can I take etizola beta 0.25 with the tablet sinarest? Can it coz any trouble or interaction. I want to take etizola beta 0.25 just to calm my heart rate as it was the first drug prescribed to me when I first had anxiety 1 year ago. I never took more than 7 tablets of it in 9 months

Brief Answer:
Tachycardia due to fever and/or sinarest

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

I've gone through your query & understand your concerns.
I would first like to address your symptoms.
You seem to be coming down with an upper respiratory tract infection.
Fever is a defensive mechanism (acts as a warning sign to us, helps fight the infection, forces us to take rest).
When the body temperature goes up, the basal metabolic rate of our body increases, increasing the demand for oxygen which in turn requires the heart to pump more blood (enabled by a faster rate & vasodilation). This happens during exercise as well.
Sinarest (acetaminophen +chlorpheniramine+pseudo ephedrine) is taken to relieve allergic symptoms & fever.
The pseudo ephedrine increases heart rate and could account for the fast rate in addition to the fever (more so if your heart rat was high even when your fever let up and temperature was normal)

Chlorpheniramine is a sedative antihistamine & should NOT be taken along with etizola beta as its effects can be enhanced.

Symptomatic relief from fever, body ache can be attained by acetaminophen only preparations like tylenol.

I would suggest to stop Sinarest, take paracetamol only preparations (tylenol) for the fever. Steam inhalation, saline nasal sprays, warm baths, to relieve congestion & fever.

Antibiotics if fever persists more than 3days (more than 102F with tylenol) & symptoms worsen. You would need to see a doctor first.

The effect of Sinarest on your heart rate may take a day (24 hrs) to disappear.
Monitor your heart rate. It is bound to increase during a fever and will reduce once this normalizes. If your heart rate is high (more than 110) even when your temperature is normal- you can take etizola beta as prescribed by your physician.

Stopping Sinarest & controlling the fever should control your hear rate as well.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
If not, please close this discussion & rate my answer.
Wish you good health

However I never had any breathing problems by God's grace. My breathing rate is 8 or 9 breaths per minute. My normal body temperature is 97.6 .

I am describing here just my present situation--Please read all so Ma'am you could understand.

When last checked my Blood Pressure was 110/70 Last Month.
Usually my Resting heart rate is sometimes 65, 70, 72, or 75 + when I am busy doing small things in my house (mild things like moving from here and there and computers) but when anxiety comes it goes up to 85+ or 90 Sometimes..but it never XXXXXXX above 100 beats and it wd go to 130 or so only when I am doing pushups. I just got freaked out and stop doing pushups since 5 months. Earlier I used to do 50 push ups or 60 every alternate day. I never noticed an irregular beat even though it beat fast sometimes like described above. Only while recent earthquakes came I panicked out of fear and immediately started checking my heart beat those times and yes it just skipped a beat or two for a couple of minutes (per 30 or 40 seconds) and then it was back to normal. My weight is 61 kilograms and my height is 5.73.
But I wd like you to go thru the following to understand me more. Sorry Sir to be elaborating so much but I really am afraid all the time.
Since the past 11 months I have been having anxious all the time. Might be anxiety disorder but I never experienced something like this before 11 months. I had been leading a content life with no strees before 6 months and never knew why people had anxiety or what is anxiety at all.

It all started 11 months ago when I was in my bed late night and I felt a very very very little uneasiness on my left lower breast side (just Below the breast actually). I started thinking what if its related to heart...what am I gonna do if its some heart problem...and then I started to think deeply and couldn't sleep and started panicking and precipitating a little. Got up from bed and then splashed water on my face and head but still couldn't sleep and it was already morning before I could sleep. Now since that day I have been constantly thinking abt my health and all that. Its health anxiety I know and I cant think of anything else except health and thats it..its giving me a hell of a lot of tension. I went for blood tests and everything was normal but still I couldnt believe the reports and have been a worried person ever since. I am in Good health though and the only exercise I do is pushups and evening walk of 3.5 kilometres daily. I am not obese and my weight is just 60/61 kilos (height 5.7) . However because of unreal fear I stopped doing pushups at all for the past 4 months...(like I thought what if I fainted doing pushups) I am giving you a physical description of mine since you are unable to see me in person.
Going further; I wd say that I have become mentally weak as even something like a mild earthquakes wd freak me out and and my heart wd start beating faster for a few minutes. I always wd have bad thoughts running thru my mind. Sometimes I wd feel like my brain is going weak.
Nowdays I am observing that my body shakes a little with every heart beat and I can notice it when I am too much conscious of it . This is more apparent when I place my elbows on my things while sitting. But this shaking is not noticeable above my neck. And also the whole shaking is very little to mention about but since as of now I have gone a bit timid I keep noticing it and feeling it all the while when I try being attentive about it. However my heart beat isn't that thumping or beating that hard. It even beats within the normal range ..sometimes 65 sometimes 72 sometimes 75 or 85. Only sometimes when I am too freaked out like if theres an earthquake or even the sense of it ; that my heart beats harder which I could feel with my fingers placed against the neck artery. Apart from that I am a normal being with no unhealthy habits. I never ever smoked or took a drink. And I eat healthy too. Day and night I wd keep thinking abt my heart and I wd get worried abt myself if I hear about some ones' health getting bad. Alsdo at times I wd feel as if theres a slight tremor within my body and I wd feel it in my hands and limbs. But this thing is not noticeable within the outside. I can only feel it sometimes within my body and it wd freak me out and I wd start thinking I am going mad or losing my mind or that my nervous system is wrecked or that what if I am having some nerve disorder. I don't know what to do and I seek your counselling as I am just being unable to get rid of all this and all this is making me weak. I forgot to mention one more thing. Now since a month I am observing that if I bent my knees/ legs or hold them to some awkward positions the legs wd tremble a bit. While this doesnt happen when I am taking a brisk walk or stand or like. It happens for example when I try to hold my legs upward while balancing myself on the bad by keeping my hands behind my back on the bed. Also it happens when I try to hold a leg in the air either by straightening one leg forward at 90 degree angle or if I try to bent my leg in the knees and turn that leg against the sides. It also happens in my lower arms if I try to lift a lid of our household water talk upward from the inside. Its a lid like a door with a hinge on one side of it to be opened from below the tank so that one side of the door is kept tilted and when I push it upward from below using one hand I wd get a little shake on the forehand as if I am balancing some weight but the weight doesn't feel heavy to me in the true sense. Its only normal-heavy but I keep getting the little shakes on the forehand while I do it. And when I think abt it all the time I feel my brain getting a little weak. Some years back I also did workouts with dumbells and barbells with mild weight and I naver got too tired. My body shape is very slim and I never get bulky or muscular or flabby even though I eat well. Please help me as I am tensed 24 hrs a day.

"Going further; I wd say that I have become mentally weak as even something like a mild earthquakes wd freak me out and and my heart wd start beating faster for a few minutes. I always wd have bad thoughts running thru my mind. Sometimes I wd feel like my brain is going weak.
Nowdays I am observing that my body shakes a little with every heart beat and I can notice it when I am too much conscious of it . Brief Answer:
Fear of the unknown.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
This seems to a completely different query from your initial one.
However, I will do my best to help you

I've gone through your query thrice. I've understood the concern & your queries.

Have you ever experienced an earthquake which has resulted in disaster for anyone you knew? Or
Did you know someone who experienced that?
Did someone you know have a heart problem?

I deduce, based on your query, that you are afraid of illness especially heart related.

Let me first tell you that,
- it IS NORMAL for your heart rate to go up when you exercise, do heavy work, are anxious or emotional. This can go upto 120-180 beats per minute (toward the upper limit is heavy exercise)
-for a normal healthy individual, the increase in heart is accompanied by increase in respiratory rate and metabolism to meet the increased needs of the body.
Once the demand has reduced the heart and breathing return to normal.
-the heart beat can be felt if a person focuses acutely on it and in a slim person it can even be palpable or seen on the chest wall at rest. This can cause your body to gently shake in rhythm to the heart beat.
-a few occasional skipped beats are normal during anxiety/stress

To address your concerns

: any abnormality in the heart will present itself when you strain, for instance pain of the chest, jaw, left arm with profuse sweating, giddiness, dizziness, breathing difficulty.
You don't have any of these but the fear of 'what if' is continually present.

I suggest:
-Writing down your thoughts, feelings, fears,. Make sure they don't repeat. (don't add anxiety & fears-one of it will do)

-next write down your symptoms, duration, frequency. Classify it as heart (to include heart rate, skipped beats, any pain, activity during the difficulty ) , breathing (rate, difficulty, pain), mind (fear, associated incidents, what you relate it to), & miscellaneous (whatever doesn't fit in the rest)
Do this for a week. Check for any patterns.
Find someone whom you trust completely who has your best interest at heart.

Do you believe me when I tell you the above statements, if not, nothing I say is going to help. If you do, then read on

I do believe that you are afraid of the innumerable possibilities of something going wrong. I also believe that you have a deep seated cause for this fear which has not been consciously addressed.
If not, then an overwhelming fear of the unknown has embedded in your mind and it has grown strong enough to bother you on a daily basis.
You seem to know this & have sought help. This is excellent but not quite enough. Complete your research. You read about side effects of me medicines and trusted the information enough to not take it.
Have you read about heart condition, their signs and symptoms & correlated it with your personal findings. If so you may already know what I mentioned above. Why does it not reassure you that you are OK, in spite of a doctor checking you out? You yourself have noted that all is well
The reason is that you let that fear tell you what to feel. Recognize the warning & tell your fear to stop. Nip it in the bud. On repetitive conscious effort, the mind adapts and will ignore the fear in time. Feeding it or listening to it will make it grow stronger and trap you deeper. Acknowledge its presence & compartmentalize it to the part of your brain where you choose to keep bad memories or things you don't want to think about
Writing it down (as mentioned above) & analyzing it will help you tell facts from fears. You can tell yourself that the facts speak for itself. Keep red forcing the facts and it will help the fear go away. Having someone you trust help & enable you enhances the process.

In addition to the above, I also recommend hypnotic therapy, & counseling. This could help figure out the roots of the fear and once identified, their Power is lost.
You are not aloneand don't have to do this by yourself. Self help groups can help you B through this. Just ask for help. I'm glad you are aware that there is a problem & even more glad you seek a natural treatment method.
Half of the work is done, the more Difficult remains.
I hope to have convinced you to seek help and try my suggestions consistently.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

If not, please close this discussion & rate my answer.

Dear Madam thank you so much for addressing my concerns.

(Concern Number 1) The fever is 99.7 This morning and as per your advice I had taken only 1 Paracetamol (calpol) yesterday (8:00 P.M.). I didn't touch the Sinarest. I have started taking antibiotics (Amoxyclav 625), two tablets a day since yesterday (6 tablets' course). Does it mean I am recovering or I should visit a Doctor? Though I wd like to mention that I am not feeling too too bad at this moment.

(Concern Number 2) Should I still take paracetamol? Is paracetamol only for relief from the uneasiness that comes with fever? I am not having any sneezes or cough but the general discomfort of swallowing solid food which usually happens during fever.

(Concern Number 3) My normal body temperature is 97.6 and sometimes it even goes down to 96.8 don't know whats wrong. So taking into account the temperature of 102.8 which I had day before yesterday (The fever actually started from noon on March 23). Did it deviate by more than 5 degrees? These figures are intriguing me).

(Concern Number 4) The heart rate is around 90 now. Will it come down to my normal ranges (which is 75>) . Is it high because I still have mild fever. Or will it go down only when I am completely relieved of fever or will it go down after a couple days after the fever is completely gone?

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are as expected in case of an infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.

To address your concerns,

1) Paracetamol reduces fever and helps with mild to moderate pain. If you have a temperature more than 101 F, you may take a paracetamol .
Uncomplicated Viral pharyngitis goes away in 7-10 days on its own. It does not respond to anti bacterial agents like augmentin. Supportive treatment like pain killer and anti pyretics to reduce fever may be taken.
Bacterial pharyngitis may need treatment based on severity. As you have already started the antibiotics ,complete the course as prescribed by your doctor or a minimum of 5 days(2 tablets a day). Take them along with the main meals of your day (morning & night) to minimise possible side effects.
Also have some probiotic capsules to normalise the good bacteria is your body (which is reduced when you take antibiotics).

A reduction is fever for more than 24 hours could mean that you are recovering. If it continues to remain below 100 F and normalises in the next couple of days ,it is a definite sign of recovery. If however, it increases to more than 102 F, a reinfection should be suspected and you have to see a doctor right away. Please continue the full course of antibiotics.

2. it is not necessary to take paracetamol regularly. It may be taken on a need basis - too much body pain or high fever as mentioned above

3. Our body is dynamic and constantly changing. Your temperature fluctuations are absolutely normal . Anything between 96.2 and 99.2 is normal. .

4. Although a heart rate of 90 is normal, in your case it could be due to the fever and the infection ( as your resting heart rate is around 75 bpm).Expect it to be in that range for a couple of weeks , even if the fever subsides as the infection will take time to heal completely and for your body to recover.

Hope I've adequately addressed all your concerns. I sincerely hope you feel better soon .

1) With reference to your suggestion ". Our body is dynamic and constantly changing. Your temperature fluctuations are absolutely normal . Anything between 96.2 and 99.2 is normal.."
What I meant in my question is that if my normal temperature is 97.6 then going to 102.8 means a rise in temperature by more than 5 degrees. My anxious mind calculated thus that for a person having a temperature of 98.6 (normal) ; if his temperature increases by 5 degrees then it wd be 103.6 which I read somewhere is an indication of Organ failure....this is what panicked me when I found out my temperature to be 102.8.
Now my temperature as read 5 minutes ago is 99.8 and I haven't taken any paracetamol the whole day and I am just only going to take the antibiotic now before sleeping.

2) One thing that keeps worrying me nowdays is the shaking of my body. Its just a slight shake which is seen with each heart beat. I notice this when I am relaxed for example when I am in my bed tilted flat in one direction. I fear what if this goes on and after a few years I really start shaking. This shaking corresponds to only the heart beat rythm. Can you please assure me doctor that this is really normal (please consult your other Doctor friends for more assurance. Please understand that this thing is really troubling my mind so I just need your assurance. I am not a heavy person with body weight falling between 61-62 Kilograms). Please do not get annoyed by my repeated insistence on knowing about this fact. Thank You

Brief Answer:
Palpitations if present, usually during to anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.

A temperature rise alone doesn't signify a multi organ failure.
Our body is set to function optimally within a given temperature range. Outside this range there is suboptimal function.
The temperature rise in response to an infection helps to fight the infection.
In the case of fever, prolonged high temperatures (more than 103 F) can cause changes in metabolism that results in acidosis. This leads to multi organ failure if no treatment is administered to correct the acidosis and treat the cause.
In your case, temperatures have come down and stayed below 100F without medications to reduce fever. This is good and a sign of recovery.

As for the shaking, palpitations are a perceived symptom. When you lay still or the room is very quiet it is NORMAL l to feel it especially in a slender person like you.
It is pathological if it is associated with a very fast heart rate, or breathing difficulty and distracts you from an activity when you are not paying attention to it.

If this is the case, it is usually due to anxiety rather than an actual structural or functional heart defect.
In any case, if it bothers you too much as mentioned above (distracting you from an activity or is symptomatic) I would do an Electrocardiogram and echocardiogram just to be sure and assure you as well.. You would need to see your physician for this

Hope I've reassured you.

Thans for the response.
I have just checked my pulses again and its 79.
Well the shaking I mentioned occurs everytime my heart beats and it cannot be seen if I am standing. It could be seen only when I am laying in my bed on my sides. Its not that prominent so someone else could notice it. its very very gentle. However it happens with normal heart beats also like below 75 BPM and I wd like to mention the pulses aren't even hard when it happens. What I mean to say is that this phenomenon happens with every heart beat but its very very gentle and very very mild. The real thing is ...its more seen then felt (hardly feel it). The are no other bothering symptoms with this and its seen or felt only when my body is in some relaxed position. My breathing rate is still under 10. However I just get worried after noticing it. My torso isn't muscular its slim. So does slender people usually have it?

Yes, it is more prominent is slender people. What you described is normal. It is not problematic, just noticeable especially when you lie down.
Please be assured that this is normal.

As mentioned in my previous reply there are signs that tell you it may be problematic, none of which you have. So take a deep breath, smile and relax.
Your body will tell you when there is something to worry.

You see in anxious people its the mind telling them always that something is wrong within the body .

I get worried because when I sleep on a loose bed..the bed will move slightly back and forth and I can notice this when I see the mosquito net fixed to the bed making a move. Also, when my legs are crossed sometimes the leg on top will move slightly to the rhythm of my heartbeat

Hello Dr.
Its me again. I hope you are doing good.

That fever was there for 3/4 days and after that I felt perfectly fine for a week and my heart rate was back to normal ranges (65-75).
But after a week I got the fever again around midnight . I was feeling fine just before that and right after I went to bed the fever started. I took a "Calpol 500" and went about sleep and there is still mild fever in me . I just read it to be 99.2 (My normal temperature is 97.6). I don't know why the fever came again.
I wd like to mention a fever related incident which happened like 3 years ago. I was in the toilet seat and then had really hard faeces (stool) which cut the skin of my anus and I started to bleed ( A few drops). After I was done I had sudden fever while in the bathroom and I started shaking (while in the bathroom) like a malaria patient and the fever kept increasing and I had to take 2 kambals (quilts) as I felt very very chilled. The fever went off by night.
Now in the past 3 years I have had same experience like that 2/3 times but I never shook in cold like that though mild fever remained for 18 hours on average.
Yesterday right before dinner I went to the toilet and had hard stool but it loosened right after unloading. But it though cut my anus and I bleed 2 or 3 drops of blood. And after 3 hours of that ; the fever came.
I dont have constipation problems and have normal bowel movements. But If there is occasional hard stool that hurts and cuts my anus (and only If I bleed), I dont feel right and I start having mild fever for few hours.
So I am somewhat confused abt yesterday thinking what it could be that brought the fever. Is it a viral fever relapsing or that cut in the anus which brought that.
Do you think I need medications? My Urine is being white or offwhite but not yellow. Eyes are not yellow too. My haemoglobin count is 11 (Checked abt 10 months ago). I know I have a little low haemoglobin content as the measuring says and I can notice always that the inside of my lower eyelids are always pink and not that red.

Brief Answer:
Anemia, bleeding needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.
I'm doing fine, thank you and hope the same with you.

I would like to address your concerns:

1) Fever
Points to consider

-fever can be part of an inflammatory process that when exacerbated increases your body temperature. Once the flare-up is over it settles back down.
For instance, autoimmune diseases like inflammatory bowel disease.

-Even pain or physical stress (bleeding from the anus) may cause this. Since it occurs mostly after these episodes, it is more likely to be due to the stress response after bleeding (even minor).

-bone marrow stimulation, in response to anemia & blood loss may also cause Intermittent low.grade fever.

To do-
-If the fever occurs without concurrence to the rectal/anal bleed, I would investigate for auto immune disease status (blood tests, colonoscopy), and do a peripheral smear to check for hemolytic response

2)anal bleed/anemia
To consider -

-any bleeding is abnormal. This has to be checked immediately and treated appropriately. Stool softners may be necessary till the lesion heals in case of hemorrhoids /fissures in ano.
-this could be the cause of chronic blood loss and anemia.
-other causes (bleeding from anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract - even gum bleed must be taken into account)

To do-
- rectal exam with sigmoidoscopy /colonoscopy if necessary (based on clinical finding and suspicion)
-correct anemia after finding type (I would do a complete blood count with Esr & peripheral smear for this as mentioned above)

A hemoglobin level of 11 is low and warrants correcting the cause and improving hemoglobin levels by medications.

In short, bleeding and anemia are probably related and needs evaluation and appropriate treatment..
Fever needs to be monitored closely to see its associations and investigate if it occurs too frequently (once a month or so)

Hope this addresses your concerns.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.
If not, please close this discussion and rate my answer.

Dr. The fever is gone now almost. 99.1 I read last.
However I wd like to mention that I usually never had bleeding problems. Also, bleeding is there sometimes (once in a blue moon) only if the stool (faeces) is really very hard and if only it cuts the soft skin of the anus (Outside). I don't have the problem of piles either. Last year like 10 months ago when I first had anxiety I went for a blood test and everything was normal except low haemoglobin of 11. But the doctor said its not a cause to worry and told me I dont need iron supplements as I was not showing any symptoms of anaemia like dizziness or tiredness or headache or something like that. I was always on the healthier side before and I wd very occasionaly have fever. I have been taking beet juice every alternate day since a few months. Else I never bled from any other place before. The anus wd bleed 2 or 3 drops if there is a cut on the soft skin of the lowest part of the anus and I wdn't be having pain either. Every people I asked this question if he/she has bled like that told me that it often happens to them if there is a cut there due to hard stool. My stool wd remain normal most of the time. One thing I wd like to add here is that last time when I had my blood checkup; they drew like half a syringe of my blood via injection and I didn't feel any weakness at all. Also sometime if I get a cut in my fingers (1nce in 2 years on average) or hand say with a blade or knife I bleed just normally and it dries up quickly too and I dont feel any tiredness or weakness or such. Also my digestive system is good (has been so far) and I hardly come up with stomach aches due to indigestion or anything other.

Brief Answer:
Meant to caution, not alarm you

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I am sorry but it was not my intention to alarm you.
I only meant to caution you.
Your hemoglobin is low and you do have bleeding.
Bleeding is not normal. It may be common but it is not normal (even if it is a few drops)
The cause of anemia must be ruled out. There may be microscopic blood in your stool that you can't see (may otherwise be asymptomatic- such as in chronic amebiasis, ulcers of the gastrointestinal tract, for instance.) . This can be detected only by testing the stool in a lab to check for occult blood.
Based on your query, you seem to have had an otherwise normal lifestyle. Although iron deficiency, foliate, Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause anemia, nutritional anemia occurs in debilitated people or those with chronic gastric problems.

Even though a hemoglobin of 11 is not alarming, it still is low and warrants identifying the cause and correcting it. (treating cause of bleed or correcting deficiencies). I wouldn't wait till you were symptomatic. Hemoglobin is responsible for carrying oxygen in your body and needs to be in the normal range for optimal bodily functions.
Your body will still function normally but it will take a toll on the organs, especially the heart, to pump more blood to make up for the lower hemoglobin.

I would like your hemoglobin at least at 13g/dl.

Fever always has a reason to occur. If it occurs frequently without an obvious reason like a cold or virus/bacteria infection, other inflammatory causes must be ruled out. (as mentioned in my previous reply.

I believe in preventive care as much as possible.
I hope I've reassured and cautioned you.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
If not please close this discussion and rate my answer.

My stool have been yellowish always and I never had gastro problems. So to say I haven't been bleeding. The only bleeding happens if there is a cut by hard stool of the soft tissue of the outermost side of the anus. It doesn't pain or swell however and it wd be just 2 or three drops and after that it wd heal itself completely.

A year and a half ago I had my son's blood-typing done. He was four years then. It was found out that he has a little low haemoglobin too and I read that it will remain so like this for ever because according to his blood type his haemoglobin count couldn't be controlled or raised with medicines. Also it was found out that he didn't belong to the category where it wd need blood transfusion and he wd remain normal. healthwise he is good by God's grace. Why I am citing his example is that maybe I am having the same blood type.
I also have one oxymeter/ heart rate monitor device in my home which I use almost every week to measure my blood-oxygen level and heart rate as well (being the anxious person I am ) and it always shows that I have 98 or 99 (when i am outside) as blood oxygen level. Also my heart rate/pulse rate is normally below 75.
Or is it that our body always produces enough haemoglobin or have the ability to produce haemoglobin what is necessary and it is only by bleeding that we lose haemoglobin which results in the lower count for haemoglobin when blood tests are done

Brief Answer:
Please Confirm- better to be aware.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Anemia can be caused by nutritional deficiencies, blood loss, hemolytic to name a few.
A complete blood count & peripheral smear can tell you what kind of anemia you have. Based on this correction can be done (by correcting deficiencies, blood loss or cause for hemolysis)

Please note that it is not normal to bleed at the anus. Not everyone with hard stools bleed. I would recommend an exam to make sure it's nothing to worry about.

Even if you do not opt for treatment, be aware of what kind of anemia and it's causes.

Hemoglobin is produced as required by the body, provided all the raw material are available (iron, ferritin, proteins that transport the iron, erythropoetin, to name a few).

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Wish you good health.

Dear Dr.

Please let me tell you this all the persons I asked whoever had hard stiff stools ; they once in a while had bleeding from their anuses just like me and they are perfectly fit healthwise. I wd too bleed like only twice a year and that wd mean 5 or 6 drops of blood. And the thing is that it happens only if the stool is really very hard and it makes a cut in the anus. Only then it bleeds 2/3 drops once in a blue moon.
Since I only came to know abt my low haemoglobin content last year (with no physical symptoms) ; I am taking utmost care of myself...I healthy eating habits tho I dont eat too much of everything. Since some months I started to have beet Juice (1 beet root) every alternate day. Also Since march i started having becosules capsules 1 a day and 2 spoons of haemoglobin tonic (with vitamin b and folic and like). Will it be good for me? I dont want extra irons to get build up in my bosy or organs tho. So please suggest me

Brief Answer:
Well balanced diet & proper Hydration

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

If the anemia is due to nutritional deficiencies, the supplements you take may help to improve hemoglobin levels. This can be checked by repeating your hemoglobin levels.

Proper nutrition itself (as in natural sources of iron and B vitamins) will help without any side effects.

I sincerely hope that you continue to remain healthy & fit. Please avoid factors that result in hard stools (dehydration, refined grains, low Fibre diet).

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Dear Dr.
Thanks for your responses.I am feeling fine now as the fever was there only for a day and I didn't take any antibiotics like last time. An hour ago, just to test myself, I just hopped a four storied building (meaning I climbed stairs all the way to the top floor) and I didn't feel any tiredness at all and no shortness of breaths. I drink adequate water during the day always and I take an apple every alternate day (since I am 38 I don't want to indulge in too much of natural sugars as well otherwise I wd have taken an apple daily). Although my blood sugar content when last checked is on the lower side of normal range. I eat green vegetables and vegetables with iron content but I really don't know how much is enough or adequate. My diet has fibres as well so do I need to avoid fibres or need to take them? I only have occasional hard stool.
I am really health concious and I wdn't eat or do a thing that affects health. Now since this anxiety happened to me a year ago I became insanely conscious abt my health and this is what keeps me worrying always (Thinking of heart all the time....Oh God). I never smoke or drink. I am 38 years of age but look like below 30. I will have the tests done again and provide you the report in a few days. I wanted to ask another thing. How do I know my adrenal glands are functioning well. Since I feel my anxiety might have disturbed the adrenal glands. Is there any medicine thats good for my adrenal glands or even any natural foods? I mean any medicine that can be taken without affecting other organs of the body or side effects?
Let me provide you with the lab tests' results from last year (30th april 2015). I know its not relevant since its from the past year but I am mentioning them only for you to have a random idea of my system. And believe me for the last year I have been only taking more care of myself .

Haemoglobin: 11.15 gm/dl

Blood Glucose (F): 75.8 mg/dl

Serum Creatinine: 0.81 mg/dl

S. Uric Acid: 5.91 mg/dl

LIPID PROFILE

Serum Cholesterol: 125.0 mg/dl

S. Tryglyceride: 112.0 mg/dl

HDL Cholesterol: 41.04 mg/dl

LDL Cholesterol: 61.56 mg/dl

Cholesterol/ HDL Ratio: 3.05 <4.5

Please suggest me if I need to do anything

Brief Answer:
HDL needs improvement. Cortisol levels for adrenal function.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.

To address your concerns:
-yes you will need to have Fibre in your diet in natural forms (fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains)

-your HDL cholesterol needs to be higher (about 60).
You can improve this by
*exercising,
* taking fatty fish (if non vegetarian - fish like salmon, seerfish has healthy fat)
*have lots of purple colored fruits/vegetables (brinjal, plums, purple cabbage, grapes are some examples)
*diet rich in fiber also helps

- adrenal gland has many functions. The hormone relevant to anxiety is cortisol. This can me monitored by a series of tests that check for cortisol levels in your saliva(more accurate than blood or urine levels). Four samples taken through the day, results of which will be plotted in a graph.
This can show if your body's response to stress/anxiety is normal.

Your blood reports are otherwise normal.
Hope I've answered your queries.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

-blood levels of sodium & potassium

-ACTH challenge test.

Each lab has an different price. Please contact your local lab to see if these tests are done and how much they cost.

What Causes High Heart Rate While Suffering From Fever?

Brief Answer: Tachycardia due to fever and/or sinarest Detailed Answer: Hello, Thank you for your query. The pseudo ephedrine increases heart rate and could account for the fast rate in addition to the fever (more so if your heart rat was high even when your fever let up and temperature was normal) Chlorpheniramine is a sedative antihistamine & should NOT be taken along with etizola beta as its effects can be enhanced. Wish you good health Regards, Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
