What Causes High Blood Glucose Level?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Jul 2014
Question: I have just had results from a blood test, it came back with a blood glucose of 7.2, this was taken at 08.10 in the morning, I had not eaten since the night before but had drank about 100ml of Lucozade at about 07.30, could this have caused such a high reading? I have always drunk sugary drinks and it has never affected previous glucose results.

The blood test was initially just a general test because of my suspected vitamin deficiency so I was not told to fast but because it was so early in the morning, I had not eaten anything at that point. In answer to your questions -
Height - 5' 3"
Weight - 8st
My grandad and uncle are both type 2 diabetic, but I believe this is due to being overweight
Waist - size 8 (approx 63cm)
Stress - not particularly
Exercise - quite a physical job at times, but no specific exercise regime
Drinks - lucozade or coke
I tend to find I get quite shaky/faint regularly and only sugary drinks or food seem to help.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
your BMI is in healthy range

Detailed Answer:
Hi there
thank for providing information.
Dear madam by analysing your parameters i am very happy to say that your BMI and waist circumference are in healthy range.
As you rightly said its not advisable to fast with such kind of vitamin deficiencies.
I am sure that you will be taking those vitamin supplements and foods rich in those vitamins.
in this kind of situations its advisable to consider doing a test called Hba1c%
This test is also called as Glycosylated Haemoglobin.
The above stated test can be done at any time of the day irrespective of food intake as this test will not fluctuate much.
Considering your age, height and weight the chance of you having type 2 diabetes is very little.
how ever since you have a positive family history of diabetes its advisable to go for a diabetic check up once every year.
The symptoms what you mentioned like shaky and faint might happen due to multiple reasons,i would like to inform some common conditions.
1.Hypoglycemia or low sugar
2.Anaemia
3.hypotension due to dehydration.

How to rule out above conditions?

To rule out hypoglycemia kindly check your blood sugar whenever you feel shaky.
To rule out hypotension you may need to check your blood pressure in regular intervals and whenever you feel shaky.
To rule out Anaemia kindly check your Complete blood counts and indices.

Kindly write back to me for further clarification.

enjoy your life with good health and daily do some exercise.
