What Causes Hematoma And Bleeding From Incision Site Of Hydrocelectomy?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Aug 2014
Question: I'm 17days post-op from a hydrocelectomy to my left testical. A good size hematoma developed and on day 10 I started bleeding from my incision. I was seen by my Doctor a few days later and he inserted a sterile swab into my scrotum to loosen up the clotting. A good deal of blood and coagulated blood came oozing out! The wound was dressed and I went home with instructions to see him again in a week. Before leaving, he told me to put warm compresses on it and if coagulated blood began to ooz out, I could gently compress to expell the clot. While in the shower, I did this and a very large amount of clotting came out!! So, my question is... How long will this "open" wound bleed and will the incision close on its own. Should I be concerned if the color of the blood changes?? Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Check for the coagulation profile.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
This is one rarest of the complications I can think about.
Are you an Aspirin or any medicines taking for blood thinning for heart condition?
Whether the bleeding time , clotting time and prothrombine time normal for you ?
Was there any infection or pus formation ?

Your Questions:
This open wound would bleed for a few more days if your coagulation profile is normal.
If the bleeding stops and the clot is not intervening, then only there is a possibility of wound closure on its own.
No there is not much of a concern if the color of the bleeding is changed , provided there is no infection.
The infection can change this to a pus formation with varied colors.
