What causes heavy bleeding on the fourth day of menstruation?

Posted on Mon, 10 Jul 2017 in Pregnancy
Question: Hello,

My fourth day of my period is the heaviest, and the first day starts out a dark brown, not red colour. Is there any reason for this? I always used to have the second or maybe third day be the heaviest, now that I think I'm hitting perimenopause things have changed!

Brief Answer:
Perimenopausal or fibroids

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Periods are likely to be heavy on day 2-3 of the menstrual cycle.
If the periods are heavy on day 4, it can be due to perimenopausal changes or due to any fibroid or adenomyosis in the uterus.
I will suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist and get an ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis and get appropriate treatment timely.
If its perimenopausal, then no further treatment is required.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

I have had an pelvic ultrasound and an abdominal ultrasound, also an endometrial biopsy and a pap smear about a half a year ago. Is this sufficient? One last thing,

How often do I have to follow this up, if perimenopause is the case, and is there anything I can do to make the symptoms better? Does eating/exercising help this? Or any medication or natural supplements?

Thank you!
Also, what would be the reason for the brown colour at the beginning of my period?

Hi dear,
Yes, the investigations you had is sufficient.
Sometimes, the bleeding is scanty at the beginning, there is nothing to worry.
You can have soya supplementation for making premenopausal symptoms better.
