Question: Hello,
I suffer from a mild MVP (past 9 years) treated with toporol 25mg and amlodipine. I also have anxiety.
Yesterday I went to urgent care because I had around 10 palpitations in a day and one so bad that I felt light headed. At urgent care they ran a ECG and the doc told me that the results were abnormal and that I should see a cardiologist. He said I have nothing to worry about but I am!. The ECG states "sinus rhythm long QT interval " I have an electronic copy of there is a way for me to submit this for review. However here are my results right from the ECG:

P/PR: 108ms/145ms
QRS : 88ms
QT / QTc / QTd : 405 ms / 422 ms / -
P/QRS/T AXIS : 77 ° / 45 ° / 35 °
Heart rate 81bpm.

I do not have chest tightness nor sweating or sick to my stomach. I have never fainted.

I do.feel.just weak over all.sometimes. however I am able to get through my dayily activities and even work out without issues

Brief Answer:
Do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for consulting HCM.

While it is true that anyone with MVP and a period of palpitations should consult their cardiologist, the findings on the EKG are minor. While it is true that normal QT interval is considered less 400 by most automated EKG devices, the real concerns for long QTc are much higher. Borderline high is considered over 430 and very high (concerning) is over 470. So your numbers are really quite low. QT intervals vary with heart rate as well. I would advise you to make an appointment with your cardiologist but not to worry about this finding on the electrocardiogram.

Good health to you.

Thank you I appreciate the response the urgent care doctor gave me no context and I have just been looking up possibly issues so this helps me a great deal. Final question, can palpitations be caused by gas? I have had some major gas/bloating for the past week and sometimes my palpitations are followed by the urge to pass gas. Just wondering if there is a connection.

Brief Answer:
Probably not related

Detailed Answer:
Hello and good to speak with you again. The gas and palpitations are probably not related. It is true that your stomach sits just under your heart only separated by a thin muscle the diaphragm. If you are having a lot of gas in your stomach it might feel like palpitations I suppose but the true palpitations are not going to be caused by gas. Good health to you.
