What Causes Hearing Loss When On Amlodipine Besylate For High Blood Pressure?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Mar 2015
Question: after taking amlodipine besylate for high blood pressure for 30 days, I experienced hearing loss. It was confirmed by a hearing test by an audiologist that said the new loss was the inner ear and it was the part that added clarity to the spoken word. Hearing the sound of words, but not understanding them reduced my hearing in a short time from moderate to severe. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
have to substitute amlodepine with other antihypertensive

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic.

Amlodepine rarely causes hearing loss. I am so sorry that you had to suffer from it
But you cannot go on without an antihypertensive, so please meet your doctor and ask for a substitute.

As for the hearing loss, data that is available is insufficient. It is difficult to say whether the loss is temporary or permanent. Now that you have stopped the drug, please get regular audiograms once every few months to know if there is any change. If the loss remains stable then the only option you will be left with is to use a hearing aid.
