default
Posted on Tue, 4 Nov 2014
Question: Dear Doctor,
In 2008 i noticed numbness in my fingers and weakness in my hands. After follow ups, i did an MRI of my spine in 2010 and here is the Impressions
1. Diffuse disc bulges at C-6 and C6-7 just indenting anterior subarachnoid space without neural compression.
2. Syrinx in spinal cord at C4-5 level
I was only ask to do physiotherapy.
I was also told i had the syrinx since birth.
But things got worse every year.

Today:
i have head aches, my ears block, confusion, pain in spine area, balance issues sometimes, muscle twitching, very week hands and the worse i feel full body paradise for few seconds when sleep and i have to struggle to wake up.

I recently did a CT scan of brain and spine.

The spine injury are still the same and no changes and the brain is normal.

What would you suggest?

I really feel like i have a problem in my brain and i am going to die.

Brief Answer:
Further evaluation is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms, and reports of MRI spine, CT brain and CT spine.

As per the reports, there are no serious issues. Syrinx is small and does not explain all your findings.

Therefore, I feel you need further evaluation to find out the underlying cause of your symptoms.

This would include:

1. MRI brain,
2. Nerve conduction studies and EMG
3. Vitamin B12 and D levels,
4. Thyroid profile.

There is no need to worry, as once the problem is identified, it can be treated.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
