What Causes Headache, blurred Vision And Loud Ringing Of The Ears?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: I have been having these daily attacks of nero symptoms of headache, blurred vision, loud ringing of the ears, a feeling of detachment, brain fog, numbness of face & arms and legs that feels like they went to sleep, balance problems upon movement, unclear speech, etc. I've noticed that every time I see the color red on the TV set, it appears three dimensional. Not everything. Just the red parts. I also wake up in a panic sometimes and don't know where I am for a short period (like 30 seconds). I have COPD and a paralyzed diaphragm. I also have a fib. I take Multaq and Diovan & Lopressor for high blood pressure, etc. I am 57 years old. I have a trache from past respiratory failure. Any ideas on what is going on? Local doctors are not helping.

Brief Answer:
It's worthwhile to see a neurologist...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Well, frankly you have named symptoms that are broad and widely spread across the body which makes it difficult to arrive at a conclusive diagnosis. However there are few possibilities that I think should be considered.

1. Chronic headache such as migraine presents with wide range of associated complaints. Symptoms such as blurred vision, ear ringing, feeling of detachment, brain fog, numbness, balance issues, etc., etc. Since these are episodic symptoms, you very well can just be suffering from chronic headache and these are its associated complaints. The vision changes are also related to migraine attacks.
2. It may be linked to drug side effects. You are on a list of medicines that include anti hypertensive, heart rate lowering drug, steroid, bronchodilator as well as for prostate hypertrophy. Though all the drugs play an important role and cannot be missed, side effects and some interactions are a possibility.
3. Anxiety and panic related issues also need to be mentioned since you do report XXXXXXX panic attacks on some occasions.

We will be able to arrive at a possibility (if not a clear diagnosis) only after we thoroughly look into each of these differential diagnosis. If I were your treating doctor, I would order for pulse and blood pressure check up. Blood investigations such as blood counts, electrolytes, liver and renal function tests and CT/MRI brain are some laboratory tests that I suggest.

It would be worthwhile to consult a neurologist. He/she will know about these conditions. You can discuss with the specialist and get yourself treated.

Hope it was helpful.
