What Causes Headache, Nausea And Sore Breasts While On Birth Control Pills?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Feb 2016
Question: Hi, my name is XXXXXXX and I believe I may be 4 weeks pregnant (from conception). Additionally, I am on birth control pills. I plan on taking a pregnancy test today and have a few questions. First, I had a period for 2 days and it was very light, could this mean that I am pregnant? Also, I peed in a cup today and noticed that my urine was cloudy and light yellow, could this be a symptom of pregancy? (I have had a UTI before and do not believe I have one currently. Lastly, I have exhibited some symptoms of pregnancy (headaches, nausea, sore breasts, and food cravings) but have not had to pee a lot, is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Most likely you are not pregnant:

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I can understand that your symptoms might be worrisome, but most likely you are not pregnant. I say that because of the effectiveness of the birth control pill. If you have been taking it regularly, it should be working for you. The hormones from the birth control pill can cause some of the same symptoms as pregnancy because combination birth control pills have some progesterone in them and that is the same hormone you have an increase in when pregnant.

It is not possible to tell whether you are pregnant from the appearance of your urine, so I would not worry about the appearance of the urine.

For your own reassurance, go ahead and take a home pregnancy test, but I think you should be fine.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
