What Causes Head Congestion, Sneezing, Muscle Aches, Headache And Dry Cough?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, I have a deep green congested head, lots more swelling than expectoration, frequent (sneezing), muscle aches for brief periods of time with 6 hours (e.g.) in between (intermittent I am trying to say). I feel warm and cold constantly fluctuating but no specific fever. Mild headache, occasionally a dry painful cough in upper chest. I think its a bad head cold..thoughts?

Also wondering whether it's a bacterial infection or a virus. How can I tell the difference. I rarely use antibiotics. Regardless, how long should I wait to get checked out?

Brief Answer:
You could be suffering from sinusitis, consult an ENT.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

From your description it seems you could be suffering from sinusitis and nasal allergy. Since you have already taken symptomatic treatment and there is not much relief, you may need a course of antibiotics. I suggest you consult an ENT specialist for the correct antibiotics and it's dosages.

Clinically it's difficult to say whether the infection is bacterial or viral but generally if the secretion is thick yellow or greenish it could be a bacterial infection.

Hope this answers your query.
Feel free to ask further.

Take care.
