What Causes Hair Loss In Menopause?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: My hair has been falling out. I had a hysterectomy 12/24/14. Do hormones like premarin stop this? Dr did say I was in menopause. I would like to know what hormones I would need to take to reverse this and get my hair to grow back.
Does laser work? A tv program has a laser wand you use in your scalp to get hair to grow back.

Brief Answer:
Yes it can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Hair loss is seen in many conditions like Systemic diseases, Poor Nutritional Status, Scalp infections like bacterial or fungal, Poor Care of Hair, Hormonal changes etc. In your case the sudden menopause and stress can be the cause. Using a hormone replacement therapy or prearin can help preventing this loss. You can get it prescribed fro your gynecologist.
The laser wand helps to massage the scalp and stimulates blood circulation in the area thus helping in the hair growth. But the results do take months to show.
Foods which are rich in Biotin and Zinc help to reduce hair loss: Excellent sources include chard (spinach beet), tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and carrots.
Take iron and zinc supplements. Avoid exposure to direct sun for long durations. Keep your hairs covered outdoors to avoid damage from dust , etc. Take high doses of vitamin B6 and folic acid. Stay away from stress and anxiety. Scalp massage- A vigorous rubbing of the scalp with fingers is one of the most effective method for the prevention and treatment of hair loss.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
