What Causes Gritty Feeling Under The Tongue?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Sep 2014
Question: I've had a gritty feeling under my tongue for about 2 weeks now. I notice it mostly when drinking water. Feels like there is some sand in the water. My husband (who has been home from a trip for about a week now and we've done some kissing) has now developed it. He went to a doctor today who said she could find nothing and knew of no disease that had such a thing. I had a yeast infection at the same time it started so I thought they may be related. Any thoughts about how to cure it?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic

This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query,

Read your query gritty feeling under tongue can be due to inflammation of sublingual salivary gland as sublingual salivary gland is located under floor of mouth , or it can be due to yeast infection commonly known as oral thrush .

As salivary gland infection is somewhat common this inflammation can be due to bacterial or viral infection also. In this circumstances I would suggest you to try these steps :

1 ) Maintain good oral hygiene , brush your teeth twice daily .
2) Do XXXXXXX warm saline rinses 2 -3 times a day .
3) Drink lots of water , use sugar free lemon drops .
4) Dont use hydropgen peroxide as regular mouthwash you can use chlorhexidine mouthwash for regular use .
5) You can apply ointment tropical application like candid gel under tongue by consulting with your dentist .
6 ) use sugar free chewing gums to keep your mouth moist .
7) you can take drug like Nystatin for yeast infection by consulting with your doctor .

You can do these self care remedies at home , if symptoms persists despite the aforementioned visit doctor to rule out the infection.

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka tiwari
