What Causes Green Watery Stools?

Question: My son 8 months old ,last one week his poos are green and water so could you advise what need to do.
We are giving him only ors

Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
I congratulate you for giving him ORS and keeping him hydrated.

It seems your kid is having acute watery diarrhoea. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.

There is no need to use antibioitcs unless there is blood in the motion. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhoea.
I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondanisetron (2.5ml thrice a day, half an hour before feeding).

Dear sir,
Thanks for your reply..

I try to get z & D drops but its not available in our local market so could you advise alternative medicine which i will get easily..
We are offering cerelac along with mother milk so please inform if required any changes ..
Infants born and live in AC but currently due to vacation he was staying in hot climate so maybe its effect..

1. Any zinc syrup which contains 20mg/5ml can be given, 5ml once a day for 14 days.
2. Heat is not the reason for diarrhea. This age babies keep everything in mouth. The impurities when go in, cause this.
3. Avoid fruit juices which may aggravate diarrhea.

Dear sir,
thanks for the reply.
Could you inform some name of medicine because the person cant identify properly.

Local doctor advise to give below medicine so please advise.no blood in stool..
1.Ofloxacin suspension -zenflox
2.Vitazyme drops
3.Sporlac powder
4.ORS powder

Since zenflox have adverse action so i am not happy to continue that only one time given to baby but no change..

I would stop Ofloxacin - Its an antibiotic. As I suggested in my 1st reply, it might aggravete diarrhea if unnecessarily use.

Continue rest of the medicines. Any zinc syrup (Zinc Acetate) which contains 20mg/5ml can be given, 5ml once a day for 14 days.

Once diarrhea starts it will be there for 7-10 days.

Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.
