What Causes Fundus Flavimaculatus?
Question: Hi, i am 45 years old and have been diagonsed with Stargardts disease. My vision in the left eye is very bad. I am managing reading and other activities with the right eye. I wanted to know if this condition will further worsen, Will i become totally blind. How fast does it progress

Fundus flavimaculatus, is the most frequent form of inherited juvenile macular degeneration. Stargardt causes progressive vision loss usually to the point of legal blindness. Usually several genes are associated with the disorder hence can't be controlled medically or surgically.
It can sometimes be treated with intraocular injections of anti-VEGF drugs, similar to “wet” Macular Degeneration treatments, if there is the proliferation or leakage of blood vessels.However results may vary from patient to patient.
The progression of symptoms in Stargardt disease is variable. Visual acuity (the ability to distinguish details and shape) may decrease slowly at first, accelerate, and then vision is completely gone.
However i would suggest you to go for stem cell therapy if cost is not a issue.
It can cause blindness as early as with in few months to as late as 5 years.Depends on your body.
