What Causes Frequent Urination While Having Diabetes?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Dec 2016
Question: Hi Doctor I am 66 still working as an engineer and have had borderline diabeties (which I control with diet and exercise) and am having problems with frequency and urgency of my peeing. Certain fluids aggravate especially beer and wine. I recently tried some Cystitum tablets from Oriental Botanicals. And man did they give me a sore penis while peeing. I have been off them for about 4 days and the pain while peeing persists. Your thoughts

Brief Answer:
An infection of the urinary tract should be excluded.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read carefully your concern and understood your query.
If the diabetes is well controlled with diet and physical activity, than it is not the cause of frequent urination. Usually, when glucose level exceeds 200 mg/dl, may cause symptoms such as: dry mouth, polydypsia and frequent urination.
I would suggest to exclude an urinary infection and a prostate enlargement;
-A urine sample taken in the morning
-A pelvic ultrasound would be helpful.
A detailed clinical examination is also very helpful.

Wish you good health,
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
