Question: I am a married women 28 years old. 2 months ago while passing urine I had burning sensation. Frequency of urination was a lot. I looked on internet, and seemed like symptoms are of UTI infection. Since then I started taking Vitamin C, cranberry juice etc. I felt ok for few weeks. But I am having the same problem again. Looks like this problem comes and goes time to time. Please advice..

Brief Answer: it is UTI Detailed Answer: Hello, Yes, it is indeed UTI. It is expected commonly in women in reproductive age group like you. For this, I would suggest you to get a urine routine test done to look for infection, if any. If there is infection, you will need a course of urinary antibiotics like Norfloxacin. I also advise my patients Syrup Citralka 2 tablespoons in half glass of water thrice daily for 3 days in acute episode. Continue to take Vitamin C and cranberry juice. They are helpful in preventing urinary infections. You must maintain good personal hygiene and keep the toilets clean as well to prevent an infection. Your husband must follow the same measures as well, as both of you can be infecting each other. Wish you good health.

Thanks for your suggestion doc, I am sure it will be quite helpful. Just one more question around this, is UTI something that never leaves the body. I feel as if I am perfectly sometimes but within a few days I feel the symptoms again. It gets quite frustrating at times. Also the medicine mentioned by you is it something that cures UTI ?

Brief Answer: UTI is a temporary problem Detailed Answer: Hello, UTI is not something that never leaves your body. It is a temporary problem. To prevent recurrent UTIs, you must consume enough fluids daily. Please make it a routine to drink 4 to 5 liters of water daily, along with cranberry juice and vitamin C. Also, pass urine frequently. Do not hold it for long time. Yes, all the medicines that I have mentioned earlier are to cure UTI. Take care and wish you good health.
