Question: This relates to my wife. Age 55. Has hypothyroid for last 25 years, under control with Eltroxin 75 mg per day.
Is chronic patient of Gastric since young age. 4 years back did endoscopy and colonoscopy after testing occult blood positive in stool test, was cleared by Gestro specialist after the tests. Had H pylori 3 years back, treated successfully. Now again tested H Pylori positive 6 months back, This time physician says treating H Pylori not needed unless there is big discomfort. Consumes only lacto free milk since last 3 years. Gluten free bread consumption for last 2 months. ( On presumption of wheat and lactose allergy)
Now the issue. She has chronic Gestro attack for last 4 months. There is shifting pain in knnes, stomach, head. Not able to sleep in night. says that there is a ball of gas which starts from stomach and hits the back/head/lower back/knees at different times. Has heart burn and acidity also on some occasions. Saw physician who advised RABEZ L 75/20 and antacid. It gives temporary relief, but off late even that is not effective at night.
Would like to know, what tests should be do to
1. rule out bigger problem such as cancer ( Her 2 aunts died of stomach cancer at the age of 80+)
2. To get her relief and lead normal life with normal sleep

Brief Answer:
About the symptoms you described;

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern regarding to your wife's health.
Four years is a long period and if the symptoms persist, fibrogastroscopy should be repeated again to rule out ulcer or cancer as she has family predisposition.
A food intolerance test would give more specific data regarding to the food she should avoid, except of lactose and gluten containing food in order to improve the symptoms (if there is no pathology found in fibrogastroscopy).
If the physician finds it helpful, tumor markers may be checked too.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
