Question: Hello doctor. I have been getting frequent sore throats from a long time. I got tonsillitis removed 6 years back and it was fine after that. I had moved to US never got any kind of throat infection. I came back to XXXXXXX 1 year back and started medicines for my sexual treatment like eutrail -at , paxidep cr12.5 and cernos depot injections for testosterone. I started getting sorethroat ever since. Is taking these medicines giving me sore throat? I visited my ENT got my nose scan everything seems to be fine. He advised me to go to a gastroenterologist. I never had any acidity symptoms. He did my endoscopy that found a small hiatal hernia and I am getting reflux which is giving me a sore throat is what my ENT suggested. I was taking razo L again I got a sore throat therefore I visited a colo rectal surgeon who advised me to get a fundoplication surgery done. I visited another gastroenterologist who said surgery is not needed n prescribed me T rabonik 40mg and t- domel 10 mg for a month. I then visited a big gastro surgeon in the city he did my oesophageal manometry which indicates GERD. And prescribed me to take razo - 20 and ganaton 50mg for 6 months before breakfast. Taking these medicines for 6 months will not give any side effects for using it for a long time ? Will reflux results in cancer? Do I need surgery or jus take these two medicines for 6 months and see ? Ive stopped those sexual medicines ever since. Now even if I get a sore throat what will indicate, that I have some other problems ?

Brief Answer:
You need multifocal treatment...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for the query.

Well I understand your concern. The main issue that ponders me is why you did not have any symptoms when you were in US. And they have recurred only after coming to XXXXXXX Possibly pollution in XXXXXXX is the root cause. Hiatus hernia is unlikely to be the only cause of such an problem. I think that you have an allergic problem too in addition to mild reflux problem. I strongly suggest you see another ENT specialist and discuss about this possibility. May be you also need an anti allergic tablet or nasal spray.

Mean while can continue razo 20 mg twice a day and ganaton thrice as advised by the gastroenterologist. Side effects are not much to worry. Please try the medicine for two months and see how you feel.

In addition lifestyle modification like
1 not sleeping 2 hours after meals
2 avoiding coffee
3 reducing stress
4 avoiding allergens while driving or when someone is sweeping in house will help too.

I too think you should hold on surgery as of now. Can continue medications for 2 months and see how you feel. If you still continue to have recurrent throat pain worthwhile getting a CT scan of sinuses too after consulting your ENT surgeon.

Reflux causing cancer is very rare; so do not worry.

Hope this answer your query.

Wish you a speedy recovery.
