What Causes Frequent Cold And Cough In A Child?
Question: Hello doctor,
My son is 2.6 years old and weigh 14 kg and height is 94 cm... Since he was 2 years old he is catching frequent cold and cough..after every 15-20 days he has cold and cough..it starts with a cold and then cough and smtimes fever...sometimes the cough is dry and sometimes it is wet...when it is dry cough it is mostly at night...we have changed 3 doctors but his condition is still the same..doctors have prescribed him anti allergy medicines..from the last 3 months he is taking montair lc kid 4 ml alongwith levolin respule nebulization wenever he is having wet cough..one doctor suggested IgE allergy test and TTG Iga antibodies test..TTA ige test was in normal range but IgE test is 112(normal range is less than 60).please suggest us wat to do as we are very tensed..

The most common cause for frequent cold in kids is enlarged adenoids. Please get a xray nasopharynx lateral view for adenoids done and send me.
ALSO tell me does the child breathes with open mouth while sleeping?

Hello doctor,
No he does not sleep with open mouth...also the problem is prolonged cough which persists for 10-15 days and sometimes cough is there without any cold..and we wanted to know about the allergy part?? Do we need to undergo further allergy test for knowing the particular allergy he is having??

As the IgE levels are normal, in my opinion the child is not having any allergy. So no further testing is required in this regard.
Cough is sa reflex in response to post nasal drip. My advise is you should get the xray done and send me. Start using sline nasal drops 2 drops three times a day and a combination of chlorphenermine and phenylepherine 2.5 ml three times a day for 5 days. Give him steam inhalation. You can try using nasal aspirators that usually help kids as they cant clear off the secretions that lead to coughing.
Follow up with the report.
