What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements In A Child?
My son is 4 months old and was recently given his 14th week regular vaccination . After this vaccination we are observing his stool frequency has changed from once a week to several times a day and also the colour of the stool shows some greenish colour. He is completly breast feed and no topups.
Is this a matter of concern and should we see a child specialist.
Do not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to the HCM
I understand your concerns but don't worry. Infants are prone to wide variations in colour, frequency and consistency of stools. If your baby is feeding well, active, alert, afebrile and passing urine at least 6-8 times daily, then there is no need for any medications. Exclusive breastfeeding is appreciated. It provides antibodies to fight mild viral infection which may lead to such episodes. So, just continue with regular feeds to keep him well hydrated.
In case, the stools become very watery and frequent or persistently greenish, you may give him a probiotic such as enterogermina once daily along with zinc supplement such as Syp ZnD or Zinconia (2.5 ml daily for 14 days). These will help in early recovery.
Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
