default
Posted on Wed, 8 Jun 2016
Question: My right masseter muscle suddenly cramped last night when eating dinner. It has become swollen, puffy, painful and sensitive to touch. Rx with naproxen and acetamenopen which helps, But it hurts when I chew. Very painful when eating. Also experiencing a flushed, red warm face, like an allergic reaction, after I start eating something. Took 2 Benadryl capsules 30 min. before eating. Flushed face not as bad. THESE ARE REGUAR FOODS I EAT ALL TIME, so surprised by immune response.

1 ALLERGIC RESPONSE: Redness, face feels very warm for 2-3 min. Then it clears up. NOT a rash.
2. No prescribed drugs for possible TMJ.
3. NO recent dental work.
4. CANNOT feel enlarged lymph nodes in neck on same side. But neck is tender like right masseter muscle.
5. No fever; normal BP

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Inflammation of the salivary glands is consistent with these symptoms. Clindamycin as an antibiotic is a good choice.

Avoid any alcohol intake during and even after treatment for a month or so to help subside the inflammation and prevent recurrance.

wishing you best of health

Thanks
