What Causes Floaters In The Visual Field?

Question: What kinds of glasses/filters/lenses will help my visual distortions due to a very small eye floater in my right eye? For the past year, I have been suffering from "subjective visual disturbances." I struggle with night vision and depth perception. Everyday I go through bouts of migraines with visual distortions as well as anxiety when going to places with florescent lighting (grocery stores, offices, etc). I saw an ophthalmologist who studied my right eye intently and said I have a very tiny floater in there that will not harm my vision, but that will be an issue for me my entire life. I then went to an optometrist and got tested for glasses. He prescribed them with a 10% green tint and said they will clear up my vision in general. But, will this help with the light sensitivity? The ophthalmologist suggested I get some special "Filters" like for Irlen Syndrome that will combine the best color filters for my vision issues, but I don't know what to do or if I need just regular glasses with a tint. What should I do to stop the visual distortions and all the physical symptoms like headache and anxiety?

Brief Answer:
floaters and use of tinted glass to decrease the floaters.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com,

I have gone through your query carefully and understand your concern.

No filters or lense can eliminate floaters from visual field. they are degenerative bodies floating in vetrious.

I agree with ophthalmologist who said that you have to bear with it through out your life.mentally you should accept it and manage your vision. slowly you will learn to manage with it..

Green tint or any other tinted just apparently make you feel as if your floaters have decreased. but it is just a colour contrast. what ever glass is advised it will not cure the problem.

You have to get the fields of retina examined to exclude tear hole or peripheral detachment every 6months as precautionery measure to wach the progress and any problem likely to affect your retina.

After refraction use the glass which is prescribed for you.

Hope this answers your query, please feel free to write back to me if you have any other queries.

Wishing you good health,

Best regards.

You mentioned getting examined every 6 months. Should I be followed up by an opthamologist. My insurance is not very good and it's hard for me to get a appointments with specialists. Can an optometrist at like a "Pearle Vision" be the person I go to for routine eye exams who can keep monitoring this floater issue for me? I was wondering if having this "eye floater" is similar to having a light sensitivity like Irlen Syndrome? Also, what did you mean "after refraction"? What does refraction mean?

Brief Answer:
eye floaters and management. inquiry regarding refraction.

Detailed Answer:
it should be examined by eye specialist or retina surgeon. it has been explained that they are degenerative bodies in vetrious, it is not similar to irirlen syndrome. refraction is a procedure to find out exact requirement of power before prescribing specs.it can be done by ophthalmologist or refractionist.
