Question: This evening I have been getting flashes of light out the corner of my eye when I blink or move my eye. It has been happening for some hours. Earlier in the day I scratched my cornea with a mascara brush. could this be the cause of the problem? Thankyou

Brief Answer:
The symptoms indicate corneal abrasion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,
Welcome to Health care Magic
I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

It seems from the history that you had a injury to the cornea in the form of corneal abrasion as a result of scratching. The symptoms are because of corneal abrasion and are because of sensitivity to light. Hence the problems are because of the scratching of cornea. No need to worry as epithelium of cornea can grow fast and heal the corneal abrasion. This may take 2-3 days for the symptoms to get relieved depending on the size of the corneal abrasion.
The treatment is by the use of antibiotic eye drops to prevent secondary infection and by use of artificial tears eye drops for healing of the corneal abrasion.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
