What Causes Fever, Severe Headache And Nausea?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Feb 2015
Question: My grandson is almost 7 and had a fever of 101.4 for 2 days, tylenol brings it down but it comes back. He complains of severe headache, is weak and nauseous. No cough or other symptoms. Any ideas, should I encourage his parents to take him to the doctor? They think I am over worried.

Brief Answer:
Encourage his parents to get him evaluated by a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I am sorrry to hear that your grandchild is not doing well. He is probably suffering from a viral infection which is pretty common in this season. Tylenol is effective in bringing down temperature but if that does not help, you can switch to mefenamic acid which is more effective. But it is a prescription medicine and you need to get it prescribed by your doctor.

I would also insist on getting a routine blood count done to rule out any bacterial infection. Hence I think that you should definitely encourage his parents to take him to a pediatrician.

Hope that helps.
