What Causes Fever, Headache And Swollen Throat Glands Post An Injury?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Apr 2016
Question: I sprained my ankle last Monday (volleyball) and am feeling really sick since Friday. Yesterday (Saturday) I basically couldn't do anything and slept all day. I have a fever (though I don't know by how much because I don't have a thermometer), a headache and the glands in my throat are swollen. My ankle is finally getting a bit better though it still looks yellow and purple. Could it be related or is is just some virus? And can I just sleep it off or do I need to go see a physician?

Brief Answer:
Fever can be due to throat infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic!

First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through. Based on the history you have shared, it seems that the fever is because of the throat infection and it may need antibiotics therapy to limmit and control the infection. Antibiotics like augmentin or azithromycin can be helpful with this infection. Analgesics like acetaminophen can be used for throat pain as well as for fever. Using anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine can help with irritation or soreness in throat. Keep using hot beverages and XXXXXXX warm saline water gargles.

The ankles seems to be healing up with the description that you have shared. It is likely to be blood clotting under the skin which has started to reverse most probably. If you experience any increase in the swelling or difficulty in walking or bending your foot the get a review with an orthopedician and get appropriate radiographs done.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Regards.
